Jessica Fey begins her first year as the head coach of the Western Colorado University volleyball program in 2018.
Fey comes to Western after a four-year stint as an assistant coach at Washburn University.
During her time at Washburn, Fey coached student athletes to seven AVCA All-America awards and 24 All-Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association nods as an assistant while working primarily with hitters and assisting in recruiting.
In four seasons, Fey helped Washburn to a 98-33 overall record and a 54-22 record in the MIAA. The Ichabods made appearances at the NCAA regional tournament 2014 and 2015, while the 2016 campaign, saw Washburn advance to their first MIAA Tournament finals since 2012.
Fey graduated from WU in 2013 with a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology while playing for the Icahbods from 2009 to 2012. Fey was Daktronics First Team All-American in 2012 while earning All-American Honorable Mention recognition from the AVCA in 2011 and 2012. She was a three-time AVCA All-Region First Team selection and was the MIAA and Daktronics Central Region Player of the Year in 2012.
As a player. Fey posted a career .322 attack percentage in four years at Washburn - fourth highest in school history, and is one of 10 Ichabods to record over 1,000 kills and 300 blocks in a career. She became the 16th member of Washburn’s 1,000 kill club on Oct. 16, 2012, and closed her career with 1,211 kills and 342 blocks.
Part of two MIAA championship teams, Fey and the Ichabods earned an NCAA Tournament appearance every season while being ranked in the top 10 of the AVCA poll in all but one week during her four-year career.
Prior to joining the Washburn staff, Fey spent the 2013 volleyball season as an assistant coach with the Crete High School varsity program in her hometown of Crete, Neb. Along with her high school experience, Fey has coached several club teams. She graduated from Crete HS in 2009, where she was a four-year letterwinner in volleyball, basketball and track and field for the Cardinals.
During Fey’s time as a coach at Washburn, she also led the Topeka Impact Volleyball club from 2011-2016. She coached athletes from ages 13-18 and her U15 team finished fifth at the 2016 USAV Nationals.
